“Street life” is an ongoing painting series. It consists of artwork inspired by walks in several cities. More precisely, they are based on street tile patterns I have discovered and photographed on footpaths. The theme of the series is making the invisible visible. It is about the everyday urban space surrounding us that we rarely pay attention to. What I claim is that when we walk in the city with our heads down, we do not see what we are facing — the street itself. The tile pattern is left unnoticed and often used as a canvas for our own thoughts. In a similar manner, I project my own observations and memories onto these canvases using the street tile patterns as visual building blocks. In this series I bring what is considered a mere background into foreground by lifting both the floor and the gaze up on the wall.
